(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A 61-year-old River Forest man is charged with felony counts of a hate crime and aggravated battery after a racially charged incident at a Jewel store Wednesday.

There were words exchanged between two people — a black woman and a white man — inside the Jewel store at the Starbucks. As the white man walked out, the black woman followed him and videotaped him, asking him repeatedly, “Do you have anything to say for yourself now?”

A physical fight erupts in the video, which the woman posted on Twitter.

Police in River Forest say 61-year-old Robert Palley is charged with a hate crime and with aggravated battery.

The River Forest village president thanked witnesses for coming forward - and Jewel for supplying additional video. In a statement, she said, “We have no tolerance for hate in River Forest.”
