Retired Priest Charged In Fatal Orland Park Hit-And-Run

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A retired priest was charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Orland Park, police say.

Orland Park Police Chief Tim McCarthy of the said 73-year-old Paul Burak of Palos Heights was charged with aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He taken into custody Thursday evening, police said.

On Wednesday night around 8 p.m., Burack was leaving a Christmas party when he allegedly hit two teachers on a service road, who were leaving the same party at the St. Michael School parish near Orland Park mall.

Officials identified the victims as third-grade St. Michael's teacher Mrs. Elizabeth Kosteck and 61-year-old Ms. Rone Margaret Leja. School officials confirmed Ms. Leja, who taught technology, died during the incident.

Officials said Kosteck, who was in serious condition, has been released from the hospital as of Saturday.

"As a community, we continue to grieve the loss of Ms. Leja and the injury to Mrs. Kosteck," the Archdiocese of Chicago said in a statement. "We again offer our heartfelt condolences, support and sympathy to their families and are keeping them and all affected by this tragedy in our prayers."
