Report: Bears' Akiem Hicks Won't Be Suspended

(670 The Score) Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks won't be suspended for an incident in which he bumped an official and was ejected in Chicago's 48-10 win against Tampa Bay on Sunday, according to the Tribune and other reports.

It's expected that Hicks will draw a fine for his actions, which took place in the second quarter after Hicks got in a skirmish with a Buccaneers player and continued to be animated.

"We looked at it as being an additional act," head referee Jerome Boger told a pool reporter Sunday. "(The down judge) had the player separated and the situation was resolved, and then here the defender comes back to restart or instigate it all over again.

"It was just a deliberate act, when he knew the official was there in between."

Hicks has been a disruptive force in the Bears' 3-1 start, with three sacks, two forced fumbles and consistent pressure in the first four games.

Hicks hasn't spoken about the incident, and the Bears are on a bye this week. Chicago plays at Miami on Oct. 14.

"It's an emotional game, and he knows that he can't do that, and he's apologetic," coach Matt Nagy said Sunday. "We've got to handle it. That's the rule. So, we'll handle that."
