CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago’s first legal “4-20” celebration is coming up, and the city’s first medical dispensary is partying — virtually, anyway.

What Dispensary 33 had hoped for was a 4-20 Festival on Clark Street, out in front of their store near Argyle.

But then came coronavirus and shelter-at-home.

Dispensary 33 Spokesperson Abigail Watkins says the celebration —actually on April 18 at 4:20 p.m. — will be on-line.

“The fact that there’s a community of people who are going to be at home and tuning in and all doing the ritual of rolling up their joint, or however they like to smoke, in the comfort of their own home, with whoever they’re quarantining with - I do think it’ll bring people together,” Watkins said.

“It’s not what we were expecting, but it’s shaping up nicely.”

Watkins says entertainment will include segments like cooking with cannabis, glass-blowing and bending neon.

It’s called the Waldos Forever Fest, taking the name “Waldos” from an urban legend that says a group of California students called themselves Waldos. Decades ago, they would meet behind their school every day at the same time to smoke weed.

The time: 4:20 p.m.
