CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some familiar faces will be leading the North and Northwestern suburbs after Tuesday night's elections.

Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering and Elgin Mayor David Kaptain were easily re-elected.

In Schaumburg, voters chose someone other than Al Larson for the first time since 1987.

The 80-year old is retiring after 32 years.

As the new village president, Tom Dailly pledges to refund five percent of the village's portion of property taxes. He plans to increase road spending and diversity in village government.

"You see it here in this room tonight. And we are going to carry this through," he said.

Larson endorsed the village trustee over two others.

Buffalo Grove Mayor Beverly Sussman was in a close race with Mike Terson, who is marketing manager for the village's park district.

Voters appeared to reject multi-million dollar school referenda in Barrington District 220 and Winnetka District 36.
