Popeyes Trolls Chick-fil-A With Job Ads Looking for Sunday Employees

There is no day of rest in the Chicken Sandwich Wars.

Popeyes is looking to fill its ranks with new employees that are available to work on Sundays, the one day its rival, Chick-fil-A, is closed.

This weekend, the fast-food chain ran classified ads in major newspapers like the New York Times, New York Post, the Miami Herald and the Boston Globe, looking for “chicken sandwich professionals” who were available to work only on Sundays, reported CNBC.

Although Popeyes didn’t specifically name their competition, it appeared to be a direct dig at their main poultry peer.

For over 70s years, Chick-fil-A has famously been closed on Sundays in order to give their employees the opportunity to attend church services.

Another sign making the ads seem like one big stunt was the fact that the positions were only for restaurants in Memphis and New Orleans, yet they didn’t target any papers in those cities.

Popeyes later appeared to admit the ads were meant to be taken lightheartedly.

“Popeyes continues to be humbled by the love its guests have shown for The Chicken Sandwich," a spokesperson told FOX Business. "We decided to have fun with this by posting classified ads alerting potential hires to our openings. And yes, they must have Sundays open."

“Free on Sunday? Have fun putting together a bun + chicken + pickles?” began the job description in one of the newspapers. “Love serving people chicken sandwiches? Join our team one day a week.”

Prospective employees were told to apply for the opportunity via the contact email SundayOpenings@Popeyes.com.

Despite getting their feathers ruffled, Chick-fil-A has not commented on the classified ads.

This isn’t the first time Popeyes has tried to come for Chick-fil-A’s Sunday policy.

After selling out of their new chicken sandwich two weeks after its release in August, Popeyes announced the return of their highly-coveted menu item with a promotional video this fall.

In the clip, a man is seen unveiling a Popeyes sign which reads “Open Sunday” next to a Chick-fil-A one with “Closed Sunday.”

The success of Popeyes chicken sandwich has been so massive that even McDonald’s jumped into the fray by announcing their own Crispy Chicken Sandwich.

For the time being there appears to be no end in sight to the chicken sandwich wars.
