LOS ANGELES (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After years of speculation that Kanye West would make some sort of presidential run, the Chicago native tweeted on Saturday that he would be running for president... this year.

He's looking to add the presidential title to his stacked resume of being an artist, record label exec, fashion designer, and producer.

"We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future," West writes on Twitter. "I am running for president of the United States!" He included the hashtag #2020VISION.

This comes days after the rapper released a new single with Travis Scott ("Wash Us In The Blood") and was featured on a collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign and Skrillex ("Ego Death").

Tesla co-founder and friend of West's, Elon Musk, tweeted his support. "You have my full support!" the tweet reads.

This isn't the first time West has voiced his ideas of running for president. During an event this past November, Kanye expressed his desire for a 2024 campaign. According to his Saturday tweet, he's addressing these dreams a bit sooner.

After months of vocal support for President Donald Trump, West took to Twitter in 2018 to backtrack on much of his praise for the business mogul. "My eyes are now wide open and now realize I've been used to spread messages I don't believe in," he explained.

As of June, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson had the highest odds of anyone not named Donald Trump or Joe Biden to win the 2020 election.
