(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As the state of Illinois works to contain the spread of the coronavirus, it’s also working to prevent unfair profiteering related to the virus.

At a news conference Thursday in Springfield on the coronavirus, Gov. Pritzker said he has been in touch with the heads of the largest health insurance providers in Illinois.

Pritzker says he urged them to provide adequate coverage to any of their customers who need treatment for coronavirus, as well as to not raise premiums or charge excessive out-of-pocket costs.

The state is also keeping an eye on retailers to make sure they don’t charge exorbitant prices for items related to the coronavirus that might be in short supply, such as hand sanitizer and masks, Pritzker said.

Pritzker says the state will not tolerate any price gouging related to the coronavirus.
