(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The president has honored the Dixon High School resource officer who took down a school shooter earlier this year.

President Donald Trump on Monday said it was incredible the way Officer Mark Dallas jumped to action in May when a former student fired shots where students were practicing for graduation.

The president shook Dallas' hand at the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Orlando.

Dallas confronted the 19-year-old gunman and wounded him before any students were hurt.

He admitted his nerves were apparent as he met the president and thanked him.

The alleged gunman awaits trial.
