CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – John Keller is out as chief of staff for Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, one day before she was expected to enter the race for Chicago mayor.

The resignation was forced, WBBM Newsradio’s Bob Roberts reports.

Preckwinkle cited inappropriate behavior by Keller on his personal time, but did not offer specifics, in a statement released Wednesday.

She said she learned of the circumstances Friday, confronted him and he did not deny it. Preckwinkle said as board president and as a woman, it's important to foster a work place where all people are treated with dignity.

Keller had worked for Preckwinkle since 2006.

Preckwinkle was anticipated to announce for Chicago mayor on Thursday. Incumbent Rahm Emanuel recently announced he will not seek a third term.
