Possible Robbery Suspect Shot In Officer-Involved Shooting

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man who police say was a possible robbery suspect was shot by officers on Saturday on the South Side.

The shooting happened near E. 79th Street and Marquette Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood, according to police. Officers used their tasers and shot the person “following a confrontation,” spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted.

The scene has a heavy police presence and a portion of the street has been blocked off. Guglielmi said a press conference will be hosted soon at the scene. 

Paramedics transported the man in grave condition to University of Chicago Medical Center from the scene, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was responding to the scene, according to a post on its Twitter account.
