May 05, 2018 - 11:06 am

CHICAGO (AP) -- Authorities in Chicago are asking the public for help in finding the person who shot a federal agent during a pre-dawn attack they described as an ambush.

Celinez Nunez is the special agent in charge of the Chicago Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He says the agent was shot in the face early Friday but is expected to make a full recovery.

The agent was part of a newly created task force designed to stem the flow of illegal guns into the city. Police say he was working with Chicago officers when a man ran out of a building on the city's South Side and fired at the agent.

Authorities are offering a reward of $61,000 dollars. Nunez said investigators "need the community's help to be able to bring these people to justice."
