CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After a man entered a 79-year-old woman’s home on Chicago’s Northwest Side and robbed her, police and community leaders hope residents will help catch him.

29th Ward Alderman Chris Taliaferro led a community walk with police this afternoon to raise awareness about the robbery that happened on Natchez near Wabansia Wednesday morning.

Police said the robber went in the home while the woman was doing yard work, confronted her when she went inside and then forced her to hand over property before he ran off.

Jeremy Cobarrubia lives on the block and said he cannot believe such a brazen robbery would happen in the usually quiet Galewood community. He's also worried about the safety of his six-year-old son.

"You want the best for your kids safety-wise," Cobarrubia said. "It's bad when that happens and they do that to the people in the neighborhood."

Taliaferro said he hopes someone saw the man, described by police as thin, in his 20s, between 5'9" and six feet tall, or knows something that can help police catch him.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
