Man Wounded In CTA Subway Shooting In The Loop

December 06, 2018 - 5:33 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 27-year-old man was shot and wounded Thursday evening in a pedestrian tunnel that links the CTA Red and Blue Lines in the Loop.

Chicago Police say the victim was shot in the left hip around 5 p.m., and the gunman fled toward the Blue Line.

The shooting occurred at the height of the afternoon commute, near the Jackson station on the Blue Line. Trains were temporarily stopped as police investigated.

Detectives will look at images from several high-definition cameras in the subway, Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted. The victim was conscious and talking but not cooperating with police, he said.

A Fire Department spokesman said the wounded man was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

When Blue Line service resumed, the trains were coming one after another, including the CTA's Holiday Train, all decked out in lights, as police continued to stand guard on the platform.
