CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --   A Chicago police officer is being credited with applying a tourniquet to the wounded arm of a teen gunshot victim who almost bled to death.

Most people don’t think of arm wounds as serious, but the bleeding was such that Chicago Police Officer David DeLeon immediately called for assistance and grabbed the tourniquet he’s kept in his vest for the past 18 months.

Soon, they found out how fortunate it was DeLeon on Tuesday night spotted the 15-year-old bleeding out in the 2300 block of Dearborn.

“They basically said you saved his life,” DeLeon told reporters Thursday.

The teen is recovering. No arrests have been made.
