Pitbulls Attack 2 Children In Munster, Ind.
MUNSTER, Indiana (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Police in the northwest Indiana community of Munster say two young brothers are recovering after being attacked by pitbulls earlier this week.
One boy is 2 years old. The other boy is 8.
Munster Police Lt. Ed Strbjak said Friday the boys' mother was visiting a neighbor in another duplex Wednesday when and the pitbulls, which belonged to another neighbor, ran out and attacked the 2-year-old.
Then, the 8-year-old old came home.
"He runs over and tries to get the dog off his brother, at which time both the male and the female pitbull attacked him and got him on the ground, where he suffered several deep puncture wounds to the thigh and multiple scratches and punctures on his face,” Strbjak said.
"His brother, the 2-year-old, was being held on the ground, and it appeared the dog had his head in his jaws."
Lt. Strbjak said at the least, the owner will be cited for not securing the pitbulls. The penalty is a fine.
The dogs are being quarantined for 10 days to make sure they don't have communicable diseases. Their behavior will be monitored.
