Pet Owners, Beware: Coyotes Are Back

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Pet owners, beware: The coyotes are back.

Now that it’s spring, the wild animals that reside within Cook County are preparing to mate – and aggressively look for food.

Cook County officials tell The Associated Press more than 1,500 coyotes live within the county. The animals  have been known to hunt cats and dogs.

Dogs should be kept on a short leash and should be watched closely when they are in yards. Coyotes can easily jump into a fenced yard and snatch a small pet.

Also, coyotes are intelligent enough to stake out yards to figure out when opportunities may arise to attack.
