CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A runaway sheep stirred up quite the scene on Chicago's southwest side Monday morning.

Chicago police and the city’s Animal Care and Control Department were called to the 3300 block of South Damen around 9:30 a.m. They found the animal darting in and out of traffic.

Officers were able to isolate the sheep and tranquilizer her, the executive director of animal care and control tells WBBM Newsradio.

“She was very terrified,” Kelley Gandurski said.

Officials suspect the ewe escaped from a nearby farm transport.

The animal will be transferred to a rescue facility.

“She will be in very safe hands going forward,” Gandurski said.
