(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- While the number of reported cases of sexually transmitted diseases is down across Illinois so far this year, some parts of the state are starting to see a rise.

In Ogle County, about 100 miles west of Chicago, Public Health Administrator Kyle Auman has seen what he calls a sharp rise in the number of reported gonorrhea cases from what had been on average less than 1 a month.

The Illinois Department of Public Health also reports increases in the number of reported cases of sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia in the nearby counties of Boone, Stephenson and Winnebago. This is despite a nearly 19 percent drop in the number of reported cases statewide in the first nine months of the year.
