ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Forty-Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's hometown is ready to cheer him on ahead of Super Bowl LIV.

WBBM's Newsradio's Rachel Pierson reports from Arlington Heights.

“People are just going crazy for it, and it’s funny when you see all these diehard Bears fans wearing 49ers jerseys for the playoffs now, just in support and just to show how we appreciate a hometown kid,” says Brian Roginski,  owner of Cortland's Garage in Arlington Heights.

Garoppolo, who attended Rolling Meadows High School and Eastern Illinois University, is one of only three starting Super Bowl quarterbacks from the Chicago area to play in the Big Game. If his team prevails Sunday, he'll be the first in that position to win.

At Rep's Place In Rolling Meadows, owners are also celebrating their local hero. A giant banner says, "Go Jimmy," and nearby is Garoppolo’s high school jersey.

"Everyone is 100 percent behind him right now, and there's not a lot of good things to hear about lately, but this is one really good thing for our community," owner Mike Reppe said.
