CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Rogers Park man charged in the beating of a 91-year-old man in Chinatown was ordered held without bond on Friday.

The man charged in the beating Tuesday of Yen Jit Wong wasn't even in bond court Friday. Alexander Taylor, 45, has been at Mt. Sinai Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Prosecutors said Taylor claimed Wong infringed on his personal space when both men were walking in Chinatown on Tuesday. They say Taylor punched Wong in his neck and head, knocking him to the ground.

Authorities said after he was arrested, Taylor spat at an officer and smeared human waste in his cell and threatened to kill himself.

A grandson of victim Wong said he's glad Taylor was denied bail, saying he doesn't belong on the streets.
