CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- California Gov. Jerry Brown will be the next person to move the hands of the Doomsday Clock.

Brown is leaving office next year, and his next job will be at the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which is based in Hyde Park.

The Bulletin says Brown is passionate about their key issues.

"Climate change and trying to move California in a direction that prepares for and responds to climate change. He's also been a longtime advocate of reducing nuclear risk," Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists President and CEO Rachel Bronson said Thursday.

The United States, China, and Russia are all working to increase the size of their nuclear arsenals, she noted. The arms race also features new members like North Korea and Pakistan.

Between the nuclear threat and climate change, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has set the Doomsday Clock at two minutes to midnight.
