Train Service Resumes At Ogilvie After Police Investigate Suspicious Luggage

May 16, 2018 - 12:38 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Metra trains were running at the Ogilvie Transportation Center again Wednesday, after the station was cleared because of two suspicious items found near a ticket window.

It started a little before 10 a.m. That’s when police say a man set two bags down -- a briefcase and another bag -- and told a custodian he "didn't want" the bags anymore.

Police bomb and arson, the fire department and the FBI ended up on the case and the building at 500 West Madison was evacuated for more than two hours.

Officials say a cell phone was found in one of the bags. Chicago Fire Commissioner Jose Santiago wouldn't elaborate on the other contents.

"Based on the X-ray is why we raised the level. And we're not going to take any chances,” he said.

Mayor Emanuel was apprised of the situation.

Police say there is a person of interest they're looking for.
