CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The push to rename the Dan Ryan Expressway after former President Barack Obama is headed to the governor's office.

Several candidates for Chicago mayor have talked about the proposal, but Bishop Larry Trotter wants incoming Gov. J.B. Pritzker to shepherd it during his first 100 days in office.

Trotter circulated petitions among this congregation this morning at Sweet Holy Spirit Church in the South Chicago neighborhood.

He's encouraging anyone over age 18 in Cook County to sign a petition calling for the name change.

Trotter said suburbanites drive the Dan Ryan too so they should get to weigh in.

There was silence when he asked congregants if they knew who Dan Ryan is.

Trotter says he understands that Ryan's family might be hurt about not being asked about the name change. But he said Dan Ryan has had his time, and now it's Barack Obama's.

Trotter plans to deliver the signatures to Pritzker by March 4th and said he has a meeting with the democrat's transition team later this week.
