CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Gov. Bruce Rauner is on an 11-day trade mission to Germany and Poland.

The governor said he hopes the trip will bring more businesses, jobs and foreign investment to Illinois. Rauner says Germany is already the third-largest direct foreign investor in Illinois, and he hopes this trip will encourage even more.

“I’m going to Germany because we've got a bunch of announcements and we're bringing German companies here and expanding German investment in the state,” he said.

In addition to the trade mission, Illinois National Guard leaders have accompanied the governor to participate in a joint exercise to mark a 25-year training partnership with the Polish Armed Forces.
