Pro-Life Advocates Rally Downtown

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Pro-life advocates from across Illinois and neighboring states converged on Federal Plaza Sunday afternoon to spread their message through a rally and march.

The 2019 March for Life Chicago brought out hundreds who heard from a variety of pro-life speakers. One of the first to take the mic was Cardinal Blase Cupich.

"When a child's life is taken, we are all touched by that loss," Cupich told the crowd. "We are all robbed of the distinctive interest, the skills, the talents these little ones might have been able to contribute in a myriad of ways to our families, communities and the world."

Congressman Darin LaHood stressed the importance of anti-abortion legislation.

"Every single day that we're in Washington D.C., we look to do everything we can to stand up for life and the unborn."

Vice President of the Chicago Bears, Pat McCaskey, performed a pro-life poem.

"On the Chicago streets, we think marching is quite neat," he read. "March for Life. March for Life."

And young parents like Reyna told stories about why they chose life.

"I don't think there's a greater love than a mother who loves her child," she said. "When I see her, my whole world lights up."

Across the street, a small group of pro-choice advocates held their own rally.

"I believe that abortion saves lives and that everyone has a right to choose," Organizer Rachel Zibrat told the crowd.

"In this country, people are majority in support of abortion rights. No matter how big they get, no matter how loud they are, they cannot deny that fact."
