Pride Parade A Boon To North Side Businesses

June 24, 2018 - 3:47 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago's Pride Parade brings an estimated 1 million spectators to parts of Uptown, Boystown and Lake View, which can be a boon for some businesses.

Rainbow flags lined the windows of Fat Cat bar on Broadway as it hosted a pre-parade party.

Owner Cy Oldham says the parade brings in a lot of customers from all over.

She says the Uptown Chamber of Commerce promotes the event that she considers the best for the neighborhood all year.

Not all businesses in the area see an influx of customers, however.

Ellen was out watering plants on the sidewalk outside Q-ideas, a store that specializes in southeast Asian plants.

It's on a strip of businesses that's called Asia on Argyle that Ellen says doesn't get a lot of pride business spillover.

With so many spectators driving in from all over and parking restrictions, business was definitely booming for parking lot owners.
