Police: Stray Gunfire Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Wounded In Englewood

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man was killed and another was wounded Saturday morning when they were caught in the middle of a shootout in the South Side Englewood neighborhood, police said.

At 11:56 a.m., the men were working in the 6800 block of South Wood when two males started shooting at each other across the street, according to Chicago Police.

One of the men, thought to be between 50 and 60 years old, was struck in the abdomen and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office didn’t immediately confirm his death.

The other man, thought to be between the ages of 40 and 50, suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to the same hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Area South detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.
