CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A pet deer missing for almost three weeks is now back with her owner in rural Kane County.

Marty Gerdisch said he spent hours each day looking for his doe Abigail since she got out of her enclosure after a storm.

He said he walked all over farmland and forest in his bucolic neighborhood of Hampshire and put up posters with pictures of the five-month-old doe wearing a purple color and with a tag in her ear.

Gerdisch rescued Abigail from a processing plant in Indiana and said he felt sick not knowing how she was doing.

Then, yesterday he said a young neighbor who lives about a half mile west of him called saying there was a friendly deer in their backyard.

Gerdisch said the doe had gone into the woods when he arrived but came right out after he called for her.

He had to call a friend with a horse trailer to get the deer back to his property.

He observed that Abigail grew while she was gone and he's thrilled to have her back.

As for the $500 reward he offered, Gerdisch said he'll tell the neighbor about it when he goes to return a dog collar he borrowed from them.
