Music Journalist Killed, 5 Wounded In Shootings Across Chicago Wednesday

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A popular YouTube host and music journalist was killed and five others were wounded in city shootings between midnight and 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.

Zachary Stoner had left a concert and was driving about 1:30 a.m. in the 700 block of South Clark Street when someone fired at him from another vehicle, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Stoner, of south suburban Harvey, was struck in the head by a bullet and crashed, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead three hours later. Area Central detectives were conducting a homicide investigation.

Stoner was known for his interviews with young Chicago rappers that were posted to his YouTube channel, zacktv1.

The last reported nonfatal shooting of the day wounded a 26-year-old woman in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side. She was standing on the sidewalk about 9:20 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Harrison when someone fired shots from a vehicle, police said. Her foot was grazed by a bullet and she was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition for treatment.

Police said they do not believe she was the intended target of the attack.

About five minutes earlier, a 25-year-old woman was shot in the leg in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood, according to police. She was shot as she stood on the sidewalk in the 10700 block of South Champlain by someone firing nearby. She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where her condition was stabilized.

Just after 9 p.m., a 22-year-old man was wounded in a Grand Crossing neighborhood shooting on the South Side, police said. He was shot in the lower waist in the 7000 block of South Dante and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Another man was wounded in a early morning shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. At 1:33 a.m., the 19-year-old was shot in the back when someone fired at him from a vehicle in the 3800 block of West Chicago, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

The first shooting of the day happened about 12:50 a.m. in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. A 19-year-old man was shot in the arm and suffered a graze wound to his shoulder in the first block of North Francisco when two males fired at him on the street, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Nine people were wounded in shootings across the city on Tuesday.
