CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man was killed in a crash early Sunday in the Hegewisch neighborhood on the Far South Side.

At 1:08 a.m., 38-year-old Christopher Cardenas was driving a sedan south at a high rate of speed in the 11900 block of South Avenue O when he lost control and struck a telephone pole, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Cardenas was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. He lived in the East Side neighborhood.

An autopsy conducted Sunday found Cardenas died from multiple injuries related to the crash, and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

No other injuries were reported, police said.
