CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Travelers expecting to take Metra and Amtrak trains in and out of Union Station should expect major delays Saturday as Amtrak struggles to repair problems with its switching equipment. At least one trip has been canceled so far.

Amtrak announced that the Wolverine Trains 355, and 352 are canceled between Pontiac, MI,  and Chicago because of the ongoing signal and switch issues at Union Station. Passengers who are scheduled for Train 352 can take Train 354. There is no alternate transportation for Train 355. Amtrak reports.

The Metra trains affected are BNSF, Milwaukee North, Milwaukee West and the Southwest Service line. Amtrak trains in and out of Chicago also are affected. Delays are 45 to 60 minutes, said Beth Toll, an Amtrak spokeswoman.

"We are continuing to work on resolving a network communications issue that is affecting the switches and signals at Chicago Union Station," Toll said.

You can check the status of your Metra train at the commuter rail's website.
