CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two women who met in college discovered they shared a love for the whimsical, so they opened a shop that specializes in one-of-a-kind jewelry, home decor and more. WBBM Newsradio's Jennifer Keiper tells the story of Alexandria Jurczewski and Alexi Traczyk on Made in Chicago.

Alexandria Jurczewski and Alexi Traczyk and own Whim & Fancy, a boutique that features their designs.

The two young women met while at studying at College of DuPage. They became best friends and quickly discovered, as Jurczewski explained it: "We have a love of whimsical things and just Victorian, Steampunk inspired, vintage - just life and we love to find the beauty in obscure things and we really connected - me being a fashion merchandising major and her being fashion design."

They create bracelets, pendants, decorated picture frames and perfume bottles, fancy hats, headdresses and other "conversation" pieces.

Jurczewski says she finds inspiration everywhere.

"If we see a special shape in nature, if we see a building that's a certain historical era, we just get so inspired by it and it translates into our art," she said.

While Jurczewski creates, Traczyk said she takes over the management side of things.

"I definitely take the wheel when it comes to the business and make sure that we're 100 percent informed and ready to be there for the people," she said.

And while they're in at least one west suburban boutique and working on more,  their work can always be found at their online shop whimandfancyshoppe.com.
