CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Loyola Ramblers basketball team left campus Tuesday morning bound for Atlanta and the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament.

Several people braved icy winds off the lake to give a warm send-off to the team. One student was on hand. The rest were in class.

Bill Crawford went to Loyola and has lived across the street from campus for more than 40 years.  He said he was a freshman in 1965, two years after Loyola won the national championship.

"That's partly why I came," he said.

Loyola employee and super-fan Marianne Wolf said she’s been getting really involved in the last two Ramblers' games.  She said she gets right up to the TV screen and screams, "take the shot!" She jokingly said the team must be hearing her through her TV, "because they won."

Wolf said the final seconds of the last couple of games were very stressful.

"You want me to show you my fingernails?" she asked.

The Loyola entourage left campus on two coach buses.

The Ramblers take on Nevada on Thursday in Atlanta.
