Local 7th Grader Named Scholastic Kid Reporter
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A seventh grader from Chicago is now breaking news.
Ava Gray is 12 years old and this fall she has a new job: journalist. She's one of the 45 journalists who make up the 2018-2019 Scholastic News Kids Press Corps.
Gray says she loves to write...and is ready to tackle the big issues.
"I want to interview people and organizations who are social activists, politicians, entertainers and just people who are making a difference," she said.
Her stories will be published in the Scholastic classroom magazine, which is read by more than 25 million students nationwide.
“Each year, it becomes increasingly evident how passionate students are about engaging in their communities and following the news,” Suzanne McCabe, editor of the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps, said in a statement. “This year’s talented team of 45 Kid Reporters have committed to covering the hard-hitting topics that students around the world want to learn more about, while developing the critical thinking and media literacy skills that are so important for their futures.”
