CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- One group tried to shame more people into voting in this year's Illinois Primary.

A group called The Illinois State Voter Report sent out mailings, listing which people in certain neighborhoods voted in recent elections and which didn't.

The Illinois State Board of Elections has received many complaints about the mailings, but spokesman Matt Dietrich said there's nothing the state can do about them.

"These are perfectly legal and they use publically available voter registration data," he said. "There are a lot of public and not-for-profit organizations in Illinois that send out similar mailings containing voter registration information."

Dietrich said the group has warned in its mailings that it plans to send out new lists to the same communities, listing which neighbors voted in this year's primary.
