CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A pending class action settlement in the Equifax data breach case could include up to nearly 5.5 million people in Illinois.

Annie Thompson of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office says the first thing to do is visit this web site – – to see if you’re among those whose information might have been compromised by the Equifax data breach in 2017.

Thompson says if the site shows you were affected by the Equifax data breach, you can go ahead and apply for benefits from the class action settlement, even though it still needs final court approval.

Remedies in the settlement include individual payments of $125 or up to six years of free credit monitoring, additional payments of up to $20,000 to compensate people for costs related to the breach, and at least seven years of services to help people whose identities were stolen because of the breach.
