CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Crystal Lake-area residents who continue to mourn the beating death of A.J. Freund will have a chance to attend a visitation service for the 5-year-old boy on Friday.

A public visitation has been scheduled for 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Fri., May 3, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home in Crystal Lake, according to the funeral home's website.

A.J.'s father reported him missing late last week from the family's Crystal Lake home. Authorities charged both parents with murder on Wednesday after recovering the boy's body near Woodstock.

A.J., his obituary said, "would sit and play Legos for hours and was an extremely smart and friendly boy who could not wait to start kindergarten in the fall and make new friends." He took his role as a brother seriously, it added.

The Department of Children and Family Services has announced that the two employees involved with investigating complaints about the Freund family have been placed on administrative duty without casework while their cases are reviewed. The employees have not been named. DCFS also released a timeline showing the agency's contact with AJ's family dating back to 2012.
