Emanuel And Ann Arbor Mayor Make Friendly Bet Over Saturday's Final Four Game

March 30, 2018 - 11:30 am

Mayor Rahm Emanuel is betting Ann Arbor, Michigan Mayor Christopher Taylor that Loyola University will win Saturday’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Final Four matchup against the University of Michigan.

If the Ramblers win, Taylor will send Emanuel Michigan’s famous Zingerman’s Georgia Reuben sandwich – Taylor’s favorite. If the Wolverines win, Emanuel will send Taylor a corned-beef-and-pastrami from Chicago’s beloved Manny’s Deli.

The loser also will make donate to a charity the winner chooses: Chicago’s Becoming a Man youth mentoring program for Emanuel, and the Jim Toy Community Center, an LGBTQ resource for advocacy, for Taylor.

“Chicago is united behind the Loyola Ramblers and their most devout fan, Sister Jean, and we continue to be inspired and amazed by this remarkable team,” said Mayor Emanuel. “The Ramblers have defied the odds and proven themselves at every step on the road to the Final Four.”

The Ramblers last made a trip to the Final Four in 1963. The Ramblers’ lineup includes Chicago Public Schools graduates Donte Ingram from Simeon High School, and Lucas Williamson from Whitney Young, city officials said.

Loyola and Michigan are set to face off at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas tomorrow at 5:09 p.m.
