CPD Holds Open House To Recruit New Officers

March 10, 2018 - 1:54 pm

Several hundred people gathered at the Chicago Police Department Education and Training Academy to hear a pitch on how to become an officer.

Speaking at the open house at the 1300 block of West Jackson Saturday, CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson said that being a police officer is hard work but gratifying.

He said the department, which is in a two-year hiring surge in which more than a thousand officers are being hired, is especially looking for officers of color and people who reflect the communities they'll be policing.

Victoria Cole, a lifelong Chicagoan, told WBBM she wants to be a cop so she could be a "part of something good for the community," and wants to inspire the next generation.
