CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- State Rep. Melissa Conyears-Ervin and 47th Ward Ald. Ameya Pawar appear to be squaring off in the April 2 elections after their deadheat race Tuesday night to replace outgoing treasurer Kurt Summers.

With 92 percent of precincts reporting, Conyears was leading with more than 44 percent of the vote. Pawar was right behind with more than 41 percent of votes.

Peter Gariepy, an accountant who ran unsuccessfully for Cook County treasurer last year, came in a distant third.

The treasurer’s office oversees the city’s bank accounts and investments.

Anna Valencia retains her City Clerk post because her two challengers, Elizabeth “Betty” Arias-Ibarra and Patricia Horton were disqualified after they did not collect enough signatures to be on the ballot.

Valencia was appointed city clerk by Mayor Rahm Emanuel  two years ago, and was an adviser for his 2015 re-election campaign.

During her tenure, the city implemented a municipal ID program that offers residents, undocumented and others, a way to secure a form of official identification. She created a four-month city vehicle sticker that made keeping cars legal more affordable for lower-income residents.

The City Clerk's office is responsible for issuing permits and business licenses, selling parking permits and administering the city’s dog registration program.
