CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Batavia officials think the proposed expansion of a popular entertainment center could have a ripple impact on other businesses in the western suburb.

Funway will be celebrating its 60th birthday next year, and likely with it, more ways to have fun.

A one-fifth of a mile go-kart track for people over 10 years old is planned, as is the expansion of the miniature golf course, more parking spaces and a 5,000 square foot storage building.

The current 650 foot go-kart track will remain for younger children.

According to Laura Newman, Batavia City Administrator, the City Council's Committee of the Whole is expected to take up the expansion idea on Tuesday.  The full city council is expected to vote on it at the June 4 meeting and Newman expects it to pass "with flying colors."

She said the owner, "Bob [Hansen> is introducing a type of racetrack that, I understand, doesn’t exist within 100 miles of here.

"With the new expansion and the addition of the new racetrack amenity, I think it’s going to become a draw regionally and even from other states."

Newman believes that will have a ripple effect which will benefit businesses in downtown Batavia.
