After Smooth Start, Can Lollapalooza Beat The Heat?

August 04, 2018 - 2:03 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Lollapalooza is receiving rave reviews from authorities and fans as the music festival enters its third day -- and a sizzling one at that.

Lollapalooza organizers and Chicago police report that they are "very satisfied" with the crowd, which they say has been behaving the past two days. They add that they are hoping festival-goers will stay that way as temperatures stretch into the 90s Saturday.

And for their part, attendees have been praising Lolla for its clean grounds and flushable toilets.

According to the Office of Emergency Management, about 120,000 people attended day two of Lollapalooza, and of those, 39 people were transported to hospitals Friday for dehydration. No one was arrested.

Authorities, however, say that could change today as the heat and heat index reach 95 today.

Officials urge concert-goers to stay hydrated and to take breaks from the sun.

Chicago Transit Authority also will have its Community Connection bus at Grant Park, where people can cool off and charge phone. Learn more at transitchicago.com/lollapalooza.
