Muslim Family In Will County Finds Obscene Message On Their Sidewalk

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Muslim civil-rights group is calling on the Will County Sheriff's Office to investigate an incident in Homer Glen as a hate crime.

Written on the sidewalk outside the residence of a Muslim family was this message, according to Ahmed Rehab:

“Muhammad - Piss be upon him.”

"Traditionally, Muslims would say, 'Muhammad, Peace be upon him.' So, it was meant to mock and deride,” explains Rehab, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Chicago.

"It's a common, derogatory play on words that you find in Islamophobia circles -- online, on forums, on the blogosphere,” he adds. “Coupled with the fact that it happened on their property made them feel threatened, that someone who hates Muslims knows where they live."

Rehab says the vandals also spray-painted the brake lights of the family car.

He said the family has lived in the home for more than 20 years, with no threats or anything like this.
