CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Real estate developer Sterling Bay has unveiled its plans for a former industrial site along the Chicago River between the Lincoln Park and Bucktown neighborhoods.

The estimated $5 billion dollar development would include a 70-story skyscraper, a hotel and 5,000 homes.

The ambitious plan also is expected to bring 23,000 jobs to the area that once was occupied by the A. Finkl & Sons steel plant facility.

"Sterling Bay, which has been one of the most prolific developers in the city for some time now, this is the biggest project that they have ever done," Crain's Chicago Businesses Reporter Danny Ecker told the Noon Business Hour.

"It's huge, we are talking about skyscrapers, 12 million square feet of offices, retail, hotels, residential units and thousands of jobs."

Ecker added the massive plan will take up to a decade to complete.
