DES PLAINES (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A grocery store that has been supplying Mexican foods to customers in the near north suburbs for 40 years is closing its doors.

WBBM's Michele Fiore reports.

The El Mexico grocery store opened in 1979, giving the people of Des Plaines a unique shopping experience.

Owner Guillermo Gonzalez has worked hard over the years, up to 100 hours a week. So, when a buyer came calling with an offer he couldn't refuse, he took it, he said. But closing the doors is bittersweet.

The shelves at El Mexico aren't completely empty yet. Gonzalez expects they'll be open for one more day, Tuesday.
