PARK RIDGE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two men are in custody after a northwest suburban burglary that was foiled in real-time by an active duty soldier in Iraq.

Park Ridge police say the soldier was watching video from a doorbell camera linked to his smartphone. He called police around 2 a.m. Friday morning to say he noticed two people walk towards his garage at W. Higgins Road and S. Fairview Avenue — and then leave carrying several power tools.

The Park Ridge Herald Advocate reports the responding officers spotted the men walking along Higgins carrying the power tools and other items that are believed to have been stolen from nearby cars.

Suspects 23-year-old Andres Gutierrez of Chicago and 24-year-old Brandon Shaw of Arcola are charged with three counts of burglary.
