Mayoral Candidate Amara Enyia Campaigns With Chance The Rapper, Kanye West

October 23, 2018 - 5:14 pm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --  Mayoral hopeful Amara Enyia got a boost on the campaign trail Tuesday by two of Chicago's most famous musicians as Chance The Rapper and Kanye West made an appearance with the candidate on the South Side.

The sounds system was awful, but the star power was undeniable as 300 gathered for the event on the corner of 63rd and Cottage Grove Tuesday afternoon. Chance The Rapper grabbed a megaphone to campaign for Enyia, the director of the Austin Chamber of Commerce. West made a brief appearance and talked with Enyia before leaving.

South Side-born Chance The Rapper endorsed Enyia at a City Hall press conference last week, while West gave the candidate $73,000.

Some of the those who gathered did double takes and stopped. That was fine with Enyia's communications director, Kristi Kucera, who said West's bridge building with President Trump is separate from what the candidate's trying to do.

"Amara supports anybody who cares about Chicago," Kucera said. "Nothing's changed about her platform or what she stands for."

Enyia will stage another such event Downtown on Saturday.
