CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The retailer Marshalls has plans to close two stores on Chicago's South Side, and aldermen are not happy about it.

Ward 19 Ald. Matthew O'Shea pleaded with Target officials to reconsider after they announced they'd be leaving Marshfield Plaza in Morgan Park last year. He may find himself doing it again with Marshalls, which will be leaving the same plaza.

The Back of the Yards neighborhood will also lose its Marshalls.

Marshalls is expected to begin layoffs at both stores Jan. 31.

Some 100 Marshalls employees are thought to be affected.
