CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It has been more than a month since a man said he deposited cash in an ATM at a Fifth Third Bank branch on Chicago’s South Side, and he’s still waiting for answers about where the money went.

It was Aug. 9 when Currin Caridine said he deposited $3,000 cash in an ATM at a Fifth Third Bank branch on 79th and Stoney Island. There was an error message, he told CBS 2, but the machine took his money. He went inside and was told to contact customer service.

“I’ve been reaching out waiting for callbacks,” he said. “No response.”

Someone eventually told him the ATM balanced out.

“The proof is in the receipt,” he said. “They can review the cameras.”

Fifth Third Bank now says they have a specialist looking into the matter.

Caridine, who works at the Ford Motor Plant, said he was planning to use the cash for a vacation later this month.

“I don’t want to dampen the trip for everyone because of me,” he said. “Just to get my money back, so I can move forward with my life.”
